140 NNational Police Reservists passed out after 5 weeks of intense training

Turkana County Governor, H.E Jeremiah Lomorukai attended the pass-out of 140 National Police Reservists (NPR) who completed five weeks of specialized training in Lokichoggio on 19th of April. The newly trained officers comprised of 50 from Turkana South, 40 from Loima, and 50 from Nadapal in Turkana West.

The Governor said that he was impressed with the quality of training received by the NPRs and expressed confidence that the reservists were well-equipped to contribute towards security objectives in the county.

He also expressed his gratitude to the president and the Interior Cabinet Secretary, “I want to thank President Dr William Ruto and Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki for keeping their word for the plan to deploy a good number of NPR across the Turkana where we face numerous security challenges.” He said.

During the pass-out ceremony, the County Boss announced that the President had promised to increase the number of NPRs deployed to Turkana West to 100 as promised through the CS Kindiki, in order to beef up security along the border with South Sudan. The Governor Lomorukai assured County Police Commandant Matthew Ndanyi of his support for security agencies in their campaign to crush banditry within the county and along the porous international borders.

During the event, the County Commissioner Jacob Ouma, in a speech read by Loima Deputy County Commissioner K. Tirop, he promised to continue working with all elected Turkana leaders and with the Governor to provide services to residents and address insecurity issues.

The County Police Commandant Matthew Ndanyi said the NPRs will be deployed to their area of residence and were ready to secure people and their property. He added that the officers had been trained to work with all other security agencies where they will be deployed.

The Governor was accompanied by County Executive for Infrastructure, Transport, and Public Works Patrick Losike, Lokichoggio MCA Vincent Ekipor, Turkana West Deputy Sub County Administrator Zachariah Etukon, and Lokichoggio Ward Admin Echip Obed.
